Bearded dragons are popular pets in captivity because they’re easy to care for. These robust-looking creatures can live up to 10 years, but you need to ensure they have a large enclosure that replicates their natural environment.
The bare minimum cage size for a single adult dragon is 120cm long, 60cm high and 60cm wide. Make sure the cage is sturdy, well ventilated and made from a solid material that’s easy to clean.
A heat source, preferably incandescent or ceramic basking lamps, can help maintain optimal temperatures throughout the day. You can also add misting to keep humidity levels up.
Calcium and Vitamin D3 Supplements
To keep your pet dragon healthy, you’ll need to provide them with a variety of safe vegetables and fruits, as well as the proper supplements. If your dragon’s diet lacks these nutrients, it can develop metabolic bone disease (MBD).
Shedding
Younger dragons are more prone to skin shed than older ones. You’ll need to examine your dragon for any signs of shedding, such as redness, pinpoint hemorrhages and/or bruising on the gums.
Arm waving
Bearded dragons wave their arms like an animal might do, and this behavior can be a sign of submission. When they’re ready to display the behavior, they lift one arm and slowly place it back down.
Asian water dragons, or “dragons” as they are commonly called, are arboreal lizards that climb and like to rest on top of logs or branches. They need a large enclosure with some high areas to bask in.
