Dragonslayer – What is a Dragonslayer?

A dragonslayer is a warrior who is fanatically opposed to all forms of dragons. These warriors may consider themselves on a holy mission for their god or another or they might have some personal hatred of dragons and seek to exterminate them. They often have a spellbook of dragon-skin parchment pages bound in cured dragon hide, with enough spell components made from dragon remains to cast each first-level spell at least twelve times.

They have a special attack form called Dazzle, which allows them to confuse the dragon by twirling their weapon in a way that distracts the beast and makes it difficult for it to gather the merest thoughts required to activate its spells or innate powers. A slayer that successfully uses this attack also inflicts damage to the dragon for the round.

A slayer can also use the Weapon Throw special attack to toss their primary melee weapon at a dragon in the air. This attack is made at short, medium, or long range (whichever is applicable) with a -2, -4, or -6 penalty. When successful, the dragon suffers damage from the weapon plus all damage bonuses that would normally be applied.

Finally, a slayer can also call on their knowledge of dragon anatomy and physiology to improve the effectiveness of their attacks against the dragon. They can choose to apply a Breath Stun attack, which targets the dragon’s gullet and disables its breath weapon for 1 round per point of damage inflicted. They can also choose to make a Great Blow, an attack that is aimed anywhere on the dragon’s body and costs the slayer hit points equal to the amount of damage the weapon causes (and all associated modifiers) in order to hit it.
