Dragons of Tarkir – The Dragons Are Back!

More about the dragons

In the newest Magic expansion, the 67th, dragons make their return. They are the mainstay of Tarkir, a plane where five human clans have co-opted ancient draconic magic to best their foes and rule the world.

The dragons themselves have evolved a great deal since Sarkhan Vol first visited them in Shards of Alara. They are now more ruthless and aggressive than they were before, with the fang as their symbol.

They have also grown in wisdom and cunning, so much so that they often resemble their ancient ancestors in appearance. This is because they spend a lot of their time teaching others to achieve similar levels of enlightenment, which is why many of them are considered skywise by the Ojutai clans.

Each clan, in turn, has a legendary dragon that they revere and strive to emulate. These dragons are a central part of the set’s theme: each is an exemplar of a quality that the clan values, and each has its own watermark.

Most have one or more mechanics, such as Bolster and Formidable. The Bolster mechanic lets you add a +1/+1 counter to your creatures, while Formidable gives any creature you control bonus power or toughness if it has eight or more power.

In addition to the new mechanics, each clan retains a few cards from Fate Reforged, such as Anafenza and Jeskai Ascendancy. They also have a few cards that are new to the set, such as Narset and Rebound, which allows spells to re-occur at the beginning of your next turn.
