Dragons in Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Dragons are unmistakable in Hyrule as they roll lazily through the skies like enormous living waves. It’s a sight that will likely leave players in wonder as to whether to fight them or avoid them. However, there is another option which is neither fighting nor avoiding them but chipping chunks off of them to use for armor upgrades and cooking recipes that boost effects for a short period of time.

These are called Dragon Parts and they can be found around the game by camping, paragliding, and even boarding a Raft to hunt them. They are the most common materials needed to upgrade armor sets and they tend to sell well at shady shops. They can also be used to boost the effects of some recipes so it’s important to gather them as much as possible for those who want to max out their collection.

All of the dragons in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can be spotted by following the path their footprints create on the ground and by using the camera on your Raft. They will spawn at different locations depending on the environment they are in with Dinraal being in the Eldin Mountains and Death Mountain region where it’s hot, Farosh flying over Lake Floria because of its lightning, and Naydra being on the chilly peaks of Mount Lanayru.

Each of the dragons can be shot by aiming with your bow and firing at its eyes (the same way that Great Fairies use Lizalfos Tails). Once they have been hit one of their eye shards will glow and a portion of their body will disappear. This will reappear later on the dragon when it is in its natural habitat allowing players to continue shooting at it until all of the eyes are destroyed.
