When you think of dragons, you probably imagine snarling, fire-breathing monsters from medieval legends and fantasy epics like Game of Thrones and Harry Potter. But the truth is that dragons are a much-loved mythological animal.
They are gigantic, powerful snakes or reptile-like creatures that have appeared in mythology throughout the ages. Especially popular in Chinese folklore, dragons appear in many popular traditions and celebrations, including Chinese New Year.
How to Train Your Dragon is a 2010 animated coming-of-age film that tells the story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, a small Viking boy who catches and trains a dragon. The film follows the naive Hiccup as he goes on adventures with his dragon Toothless and changes the entire world’s perception of dragons.

In addition to the main characters and species from the three films, there are a variety of other characters in the movie that may qualify as “main.” For example, Hiccup’s father Stoick the Vast appears in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World as the chief of his clan. The film also introduces the Night Light children, who believe dragons are dangerous monsters, and Astrid’s mother Stormfly, who teaches her children to be respectful of animals.

The film is a wonderful example of how movies can teach children to be socially responsible. In fact, television programs in particular have long been used to teach kids about socially appropriate behavior.
