Traditionally, funeral or cremation urns are crafted from a variety of materials. Often, the urn will have a design, such as a dragon, engraved upon it to commemorate the passing of a loved one. The urn will be given to the deceased, or to their family members. Sometimes, a pair of urns will be purchased to hold the ashes of two people who want to rest together.
The urn is an object that symbolizes death and the process of mourning. In Greek culture, the urn was used to hold the ashes of the dead. The urn was also often carved with willow branches to indicate mourning and drooping spirits. During the 1700’s and 1800’s, urns with willow branches were a popular carving on gravestones in New England.
In Origins, the decision to defile or not defile the Urn of Sacred Ashes can have far reaching consequences. The choice made can change the way the High Dragon is fought, if it is fought at all in the temple, the cultists and Brother Genitivi will be treated by the Chantry differently, and a number of other comments and side quests.
If the party does not defile the urn and follows the path to the temple, the fight with the High Dragon is significantly easier as there are fewer cultists and mages in the temple. If the party tries to slay the High Dragon and does not prevent Brother Genitivi from revealing the location of the Urn to the world, then it will not receive the Heroic Accomplishment rewards.
