The Dragon Slayer is a class of warrior that wields the power of a dragon, a form of Lost Magic. They are one of the most powerful mages in the Kingdom of Fiore. First Generation Dragon Slayers unknowingly carry a great risk proportionate to their incredible power: if they use their magic too much the dragon seed inside of them will bloom and start the process of Dragonization, wherein the Dragon Slayer will lose their human forms and become essentially a dragon but not quite.
They are immune to the element of their dragon lacrima, meaning that a fire Dragon Slayer cannot be harmed by fire, and they can also consume their element through their mouths to fuel and replenish their magic. They can also use a technique called Drive, which releases all the magic stored in their Dragon Lacrima and supercharges them, increasing their physical strength and magical abilities tenfold and allowing them to take down much more difficult foes with far less effort.
Many people do not understand how Dragon Slayers can be so easily defeated by a God Dragon like Acnologia, who is leagues above them in terms of power and destructiveness. They think that it must be because of the Dragon Lacrima, but that is not necessarily true. The real reason is because of the way Dragon Magic works. It is similar to how Pokemon types match up: water type moves are weak against grass types, and pyschic type moves are strong against fire type moves.
