Dragon Drawing – How to Draw a Dragon in the Classical Chinese Style
A dragon is a reptilian creature that is scaly, has a head made of lizard or crocodile skin, and breathes fire and poison. The myths of dragons have their roots in fossils and crocodiles, so a dragon with those characteristics would be a perfect fit for your drawing. In this kid-friendly video tutorial, you’ll learn how to draw a dragon in the classical Chinese style.
Once you’ve chosen a dragon type, you’ll need to create a central line that goes through its entire body. This line can be achieved with several pencil strokes, but as you get more practice, the number of strokes you need will decrease. Next, add volume to the S-shaped line by tilting or bending the lines. If you’re able to draw a dragon with more than three different body parts, you can draw a more realistic version.
After creating a basic line, the next step is to draw a dragon’s head and nose. You may need several pencil strokes to create the head and nose of a dragon. The more practice you have, the less you’ll need to do. After you’ve done this, you can add volume by tilting the torso, adding bends to the legs, and adding more features. If you’re not sure how to do this, you can use reference photos to help you draw a more realistic dragon.
