The Dragon Age series is known for a blend of tactical combat and narrative-driven quests with choices that dramatically affect the story’s outcome. But it’s also been notoriously prone to delays and staff turnover. It’s understandable that fans are eagerly awaiting the fourth mainline entry in the franchise, which is currently being developed under the working title of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
Despite these struggles, BioWare seems to be optimistic about the project’s prospects. In a community update released this week, the studio claims that Dreadwolf will balance answering long-running questions from fans with crafting a story new players can get invested in.
In addition, Dreadwolf will reportedly be built using the latest generation of consoles. That means it will be a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release, as well as a PC release. It’s worth noting that Dreadwolf will be a single-player game, unlike its Mass Effect and Battlefront sequels.
While the Dreadwolf release date is still TBD, it looks like it may be launching sometime next year. Senior Cinematic Animator Kevin Scott initially listed the game’s release date as 2024 on his LinkedIn page, which fueled fans’ excitement. However, he later changed the date to Release TBD.
Considering the rocky history of the project, it’s best not to get too excited just yet. The Dragon Age series has a reputation for being hit or miss with fans, so it’s crucial that this latest entry is up to scratch.
